Spiritual Hypnosis
Spiritual hypnosis is the use of hypnotic tools and techniques to access a higher state of consciousness for personal and spiritual transformation.
Trance, or hypnotic states have been part of shamanic healing for millennia. Psychological and medical studies of hypnosis over the last 200 years have uncovered a safe, effective way to access elevated states of consciousness without the need for years of training or potentially harmful substances
WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?
In it's simplest form hypnosis just a focus of attention so that your brain waves to slow down just as they do when you go to sleep or meditate. This enables you to access a state of consciousness different to your everyday ‘thinking’ state.
It’s an entirely natural process and you will have been in a hypnotic state daily without realising it. Have you ever watched a film and been so engrossed in the story that you forget that you are sat on a chair watching a screen? That’s a form of hypnosis.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SESSION?
This depends greatly on the hypnotist (or hypnotherapist) and their tools, philosophy and approach.
A session will begin with a conversation to put you at ease, answer any questions you might have and understand what you would like to accomplish from your session. Being clear about your intention, goals and outcomes is vital to the success of the session.
Some hypnotists may perform a short form of ceremony to open up the sacred space. They might invite in your guides to support with the session or set an energetic foundation for the work you will be doing. This is similar to setting an intention before a yoga session, or saying a short prayer.
You will then be gently guided into a deeply relaxed state, where your conscious mind may, or may not, drift off.
There are several levels of hypnosis from a light trance, to a deep sleep like level of trance, called ‘somnambulism’ where the individual often experiences feelings of total bliss or euphoria. All of which are completely natural and you will have experienced a trance state many times in the ordinary course of life. If you have ever been so focused on the road that you lose track of where you are, that’s a form of hypnosis - often called a driving trance.
WILL I BE CONSCIOUSLY AWARE OF WHAT IS HAPPENING?
Many people assume that their conscious mind will switch off and that they will have no conscious awareness of the experience. In most cases the conscious mind remains present throughout - although you might find it wandering at times. Just because you are consciously aware doesn't mean that you aren't in trance.
Personal changes can occur from even a light trance state, meaning that somnambulism isn’t necessary for the hypnosis to be effective.
If the purpose of the hypnosis is to address some form of issue and change how you think feel or act, sometimes it can be helpful for a hypnotist to create a suggestion that you won’t consciously remember all the details of the session after. That’s because if we consciously try to analyse it, we can unpick the changes our subconscious mind made. Simply trust that the mind has everything it needs to make the changes.
WHAT CHANGES WILL I EXPERIENCE AFTER?
Change happens differently for everyone. We focus your sessions on the specific issue you want to work through and focus on how you want to think, feel and behave instead.
You might experience an immediate shift during your session (often people feel a physical release of some kind when this happens – like letting go of an old weight).
Some people find that change happens over the days or weeks after their session. You might suddenly notice that you feel or respond differently to something, or you might reflect back and notice that things have gradually changed.
